Gregorio Patini shot the Vasta Brothers, killing Joseph Vasta outside his home in Sherman Park, Pleasantville in December 1910. Patini intended to kill Don Leo, the father of the boy who ran off with Patini's sister. The Vastas became targets because of their association with Don Leo, but were unarmed at the time of the shooting.
