The Playland Photograph Collection contains detailed photographs of Playland Amusement Park from its construction in 1927-28 through about 1941. There are many images of amusement rides, games, concessions, buildings, park goers and entertainers, as well as scenes from Playland beach, Manursing Lake and the boardwalk along Long Island Sound. Playland is the only county-run amusement park in the country and as a National Historic Landmark is an excellent example of Art Deco architecture. Additional photographs of Playland are found in the Park Commission, John Gass, and Park Lantern Slide collections.
This collection was created in 2009 as part of a Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund Grant from the New York State Archives.
