Annual reports are a key medium through which corporate, governmental and private entities review their past accomplishments and take a look at their future goals. The departments and commissions that make up the Westchester County government are no exception to this practice. This collection gathers two separate but related collections – the early annual reports of the Westchester County Parks Commission (for the first decade of its existence, 1923-1932) and of the Westchester County Recreation Commission (from 1942-1947, 1949 and 1955 – beginning approximately 15 years after that commission began operations and shortly after a reorganization in 1939). Together this group of annual reports provides detailed information on how the Parks Commission carried out its mission to “provide for the location, creation, acquisition and improvement of parks, parkways and boulevards in and by the County of Westchester” and the results of that work with the annual summaries in the Recreation Commission reports of the amenities provided at each park property and the fees charged for those services.
Indexing Status: Currently only the Park Commission Annual Reports for the years 1923-1932 are available for this collection and all are full-text searchable. Work has not begun on adding Annual Reports from the Recreation Commission.
